Maeve carries an ordinal value of 46, reducing to One, a number tied to new beginnings and independence. Its reverse ordinal of 89 sits well above its forward ordinal of 46, a sign that most of its letters fall early in the alphabet. The Chaldean system gives 21, which reduces to Three and so reads differently from the standard total.
Maeve is the anglicised Irish Medb, usually explained as "she who intoxicates," related to the Old Irish word for mead. Queen Medb of Connacht leads the war against Ulster in the Táin Bó Cúailnge, the great cattle-raid epic of the Ulster Cycle.
Saying it. The name is pronounced "MAYV," and the Irish spellings are Méabh and the older Medb. The Irish writer Maeve Binchy (1939–2012) is one of the best-known bearers, and the great cairn on Knocknarea in County Sligo, Miosgán Meidhbhe, is traditionally said to be the burial place of Queen Medb.
How Maeve adds up
In the ordinal cipher each letter takes its position in the alphabet. Maeve is spelled M-A-E-V-E, which gives 13 + 1 + 5 + 22 + 5 = 46. Reducing the total to a single digit (4+6=10, then 1+0=1) gives 1.
