Tarot
Word — gematria and numerology meaning
| Cipher | Value |
|---|---|
| Ordinal (A=1, B=2…) | 74 |
| Reverse Ordinal (Z=1, Y=2…) | 61 |
| Reduction | 20 |
| Pythagorean | 20 |
| Chaldean | 18 |
Tarot carries an ordinal value of 74, reducing to Two, a number tied to partnership and balance. Its reverse ordinal of 61 sits well below its forward ordinal of 74, a sign that most of its letters fall late in the alphabet. The Chaldean system gives 18, which reduces to Nine and so reads differently from the standard total.
"Tarot" comes from the Italian tarocchi, the name of a card game played in northern Italy from the 15th century. The cards were first used for fortune-telling in the 18th century, and the claim that they come from ancient Egypt, first made by Antoine Court de Gébelin in 1781, has no historical support. The meanings of each card are covered at Star Cipher.
How Tarot adds up
In the ordinal cipher each letter takes its position in the alphabet. Tarot is spelled T-A-R-O-T, which gives 20 + 1 + 18 + 15 + 20 = 74. Reducing the total to a single digit (7+4=11, then 1+1=2) gives 2.
| Letter | Ordinal value |
|---|---|
| T | 20 |
| A | 1 |
| R | 18 |
| O | 15 |
| T | 20 |
| Total | 74 |
