10
Number — gematria and numerology meaning
Ten completes the first full count on the fingers and is the base of the decimal system used almost everywhere. The Ten Commandments of Exodus 20 and the ten plagues of Egypt give it weight in the Bible, and in Hebrew the letter yod has the value 10. In numerology it reduces to One, so it is read as a number of completion that is also a fresh start. The Pythagoreans honoured the tetractys, the triangle of 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10, as a sacred figure.
Writers on numerology treat ten as the number of the whole round of life, a one and a zero together, the seed and the circle, and as a number that rewards finishing what has been begun.
Number facts
- 10 is a composite number. Its prime factors are 2 × 5.
- In numerology it reduces to a single digit: 1+0=1. The root number is 1, and many numerologists read repeated-digit numbers through that root.
