13

Number — gematria and numerology meaning

Number
13

Thirteen has a name for the fear of it, triskaidekaphobia, and Friday the 13th is the best-known unlucky day in the English-speaking world. One tradition ties the number to the thirteen people at the Last Supper, though the fear is much older and not clearly traced. In Hebrew gematria, 13 is the value of both אחד (echad, "one") and אהבה (ahavah, "love"). It reduces to Four in numerology.

The superstition is not universal: in Italy, 13 is often counted lucky, and the number appears throughout the Great Seal of the United States, in its thirteen stripes, stars and arrows, for the original thirteen colonies.
