18
Number — gematria and numerology meaning
In Hebrew, 18 is the value of חי (chai, "life"), and gifts and donations in Jewish communities are often given in multiples of 18, such as $18, $36 or $180, as a wish for life. In many countries 18 is also the age of legal adulthood. It reduces to Nine in numerology, a number linked in Jewish tradition with life and good fortune.
In Jewish practice the number also appears in the central daily prayer, the Amidah, whose traditional name Shemoneh Esrei means "eighteen," for the eighteen blessings it originally had; a nineteenth was added later.
Number facts
- 18 is a composite number. Its prime factors are 2 × 3^2.
- In numerology it reduces to a single digit: 1+8=9. The root number is 9, and many numerologists read repeated-digit numbers through that root.
