Shamrock carries an ordinal value of 88, reducing to Seven, a number tied to reflection and inquiry. Its reverse ordinal of 128 sits well above its forward ordinal of 88, a sign that most of its letters fall early in the alphabet. The Chaldean system gives 27, which reduces to Nine and so reads differently from the standard total.

"Shamrock" comes from the Irish seamróg, "little clover." It has been used as a symbol of Ireland since at least the 17th century, and a story told of Saint Patrick says he used it to explain the Trinity, though the earliest written form of that story dates from long after his time.

Facts. The shamrock is usually identified as a species of clover, either lesser clover (Trifolium dubium) or white clover (Trifolium repens), and is worn on Saint Patrick's Day; a four-leaf clover is a rare variant, not a shamrock.

How Shamrock adds up

In the ordinal cipher each letter takes its position in the alphabet. Shamrock is spelled S-H-A-M-R-O-C-K, which gives 19 + 8 + 1 + 13 + 18 + 15 + 3 + 11 = 88. Reducing the total to a single digit (8+8=16, then 1+6=7) gives 7.
